Building trust is …

really hard in an environment where the lack of it is already the norm. The best way to deal with it is to leave. Trusting oneself is important in cultivating a sense of unadulterated instinct. Often, we equate logic as a more trusted compass, however, without instinct logic becomes a broken compass that continually points in the direction of what is possible. Both logic and instinct are necessary to navigate the unknown.

Becoming better at anything requires …

a mind that is able to focus on the present and not worry too much about the result. The process is the goal itself. It is when a child plays in a way that is focused and unconcerned for his/her surroundings. Just like how my nephew would play with Play-Doh for hours and not worry about anything else. Then he stops and looks for snacks because he got hungry or just because he loves snacks. Focused and not worried.

Constant stress is …

detrimental to one’s ability to create. Achieving flow can only happen when what we are doing is at the border of stress and stress-free. A lot of the choices we make in our lives are often influenced by our level of stress. The first step is knowing that level and become more sensitive to its fluctuation. This will then help with knowing when to stop and rest.

Doing something you’ve never done is …

a good way to explore one’s tendency for negative self-talk. Are you patient and kind when you fail? It is easy to continually believe that failing equates to us being inadequate and worthless.

“When we experience our lives through this lens of personal insufficiency, we are imprisoned in what I call the trance of unworthiness.”

— Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach Ph. D

Consistent, incisive action is …

necessary in order to keep self-doubt at bay. Our emotion is the navigator. Our mind is the captain. It is in practicing consistency that we begin to see how our habits can have detrimental or enhancing effects in both our moods and our ability to make healthy decisions.
