What does it take to create a high-performing team?

Create and maintain clear boundaries

The primary driver of any toxic relationship is unclear boundaries. Communicate and review expectations regularly. Touch base with individual team members to get to know them and solicit feedback as much as possible.

Practice genuine kindness

There’s nothing more trust-inducing than someone who genuinely wants to help you. A team environment predicated on trust, appreciation, and well-being provides a safe place. A person with manageable stress levels is more likely to be more patient, mindful, and kind.

Remain curious

Assuming something to be true without consulting the source of truth is often unhelpful. It only takes one wrong assumption for trust to be diminished. Stay open-ended when asking questions and avoid statements as much as possible when doubts about the validity of a statement exist.

Publically appreciate

When something is helpful and healthy for the team or your team’s goals, make sure to appreciate a person or the team publically.

Private feedback

When a behavior is deemed unacceptable, approaching a person in private is often safer. Keep feedback clear, concise, and constructive. The three Cs.

Extreme Ownership

If your team makes a mistake, own it as their leader. If a team succeeds, none of those successes should be directly attributed to you. Read the Extreme Ownership book for more ideas.
