Craving happiness

“What pain do you want in your life? What are you willing to struggle for?” — Mark Manson

The pursuit of happiness has led many to focus solely on pleasure-inducing experiences. If this is left unchecked, we ultimately arrive at emotions that we deemed unpleasant.

I spent the early part of my life in the Philippines. Now I live in the US. Being a Filipino American has led me to have an internal environment full of diametrically opposing world views. On one hand, when in poverty, I focused so much on survival that it's almost close to impossible to contribute something “meaningful” to the world. On the other hand, living in comfort does the same thing. I became so bogged down on the details. In a way, my focus on physical survival has shifted to one that is psychological in nature.

I now believe in struggling toward something that provides some dose of meaning. It does not have to be earth-shattering. Taking action on a daily basis is enough.

More to come…

Thank you for taking the time to read this! :)
